Boeing says the side-of-body modification for the Dreamliner is “on track”, but is still not disclosing any details. In a statement released Oct. 16, Scott Fancher, general manager of the Dreamliner program, said:
“The design of the side-of-body solution is on track. Installations of the fittings are proceeding well and we are pleased with the progress we are making on this important effort. We continue to be on track to fly the 787 by the end of the year.”
Boeing said a more detailed update will be provided on Oct. 21 during Boeing’s third-quarter earnings call. The original design put too much stress on composite sections of the wing, causing them to delaminate.
