The US Marine Corps last year banned use of synthetic materials, such as polyester and nylon, for combat soldiers. In some cases, those materials fused to soldiers’ skin when exposed to heat. A new blend made half of wool and half of aramid fiber is being developed for soldiers’ underwear in a cooperative program between the American Wool Council and the Natick Soldier Center (NSC) operated by the US Army.
