Design Chain Associates has reported that on November 24 2010 the European Parliament voted to adopt the latest proposed amendments to the RoHS Directive. The text must be approved by the EU council and published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The Belgium president of the council has set a goal of having this approved prior to December 31 2010. The new RoHS directive will need to be implemented into EU Member State law no later than 18 months after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
Some significant changes include:
- Addition of Category 11
- Addition of Categories 8 Medical and 9 Monitoring and Control Instruments
- CE marking
- Declaration of Conformity
- Changes in exempted products
- Changes in Definitions
- Criteria for exemption applying, granting, renewing, deleting
