Design Chain Associates of San Francisco has obtained and translated into English the new, China RoHS-related “General Guidelines of Environment-friendly Use Period of Electronic Information Products,” SJ/Z 11388-2009. This was promulgated on 17 Nov. 2009, and “implemented” on 1 Jan 2010, according to Design Chain Associates.
“The purpose of the Environment-Friendly Use Period is for manufacturers to identify the time period they guarantee that the toxic or hazardous substances, as identified in the China RoHS regulation, will not ‘leak out or mutate.” It can range from 5 to 50 years, says Michael Kirschner, president of Design Chain Associates.
The translation is currently available only in hard-copy in China, but the Design Chain translation is supplied in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. You can visit China RoHS Documents page to order this final version of the EFUP Guidance Document. Cost is $109.
