How do you intend to declare your product is green?
The issue is muddy on the regulations side. The UK is the only EU country with material declaration instructions, and those are skimpy. Meanwhile, manufacturers are asking their suppliers for material composition data in a rainbow of different formats. iNEMI (The International Manufacturing Initiative – inemi.org) has released a proposed standard for the declaration of materials content. But so far, it’s only getting the interest of major OEMs and a few CMs.
Some products contain hundreds, even thousands of components, so keeping track of the material content of each part is a nightmarish prospect, especially without standardized formats. RosettaNet has developed a PIP (partner interface process) to exchange material content data electronically. But that’s an option only for the biggest manufacturers. For the rest, it’s a mess.
I’d like to hear how you’re handling your preparation to declare the material content of your products.
