Nice article summing up the current state of the industry! And the next step after the machine orders its own parts might be...a self-driving service truck with a 3D printer in the back fabricates the needed parts as it drives to the job site. The mechanic on-site opens a panel in the side of the truck and takes delivery of his parts--he had already received a text from the service lifecycle management system with precise arrival time. We're likely a few more years away from a field service robot that can do the maintenance itself.
