Digress away, Chuck! Yes, I know what you mean. Robots already play soccer, which is far less dangerous (although of course, soccer players that takes dives and whine and cry when they've been merely nudged by opponents would have you believe this is not the case!). American football has proven to be very traumatic for the body over the years, so robots replacing humans there is a good idea. Although it's got nothing on rugby or Australian rules football!

I realize we're digressing here, but I do expect to see robots playing pro football at some point far in the future. With all the head injuries in that sport, I don't think they'll let humans continue to play it. I have told my sons, "Someday, you'll be able to tell your grandkids that you played football back in the days when it was legal for humans."

You're on to something, William K. Think about those pitching machines people would use for batting practice. One could argue this is the first "robotic" baseball player. Now imagine more sophisticated robotic players. It would just be a fun idea, like a Robot World Series or something. I'd like to see some great minds get to work on it if they aren't already!

A robotic batter that could hit every fair ball woud certainly be a good addition. If it could hit them out f the stadium then it woud not need to run so fast to get a homer. And it certainly would be quite a show, wouldn't it?

Ah, well, your comment brings up a good point about the MLB, William K. Often clubs used budgets as an excuse to perform badly, but really, as you say, with baseball players being paid so much, there really is no excuse for playing badly. But I guess we're digressing here! Maybe robots will help teams like the Tigers! :)

Eizabeth, the Tigers have an adequate budget, not the largest, but certainlylarge. And for each game they get paid more than I make in a whole year! So with that level of compensation any honest person should work very hard to deliver the money's worth. Any less effort is simply stealing.

Ha, yes, actually, the Tigers are one team I had in mind when I mentioned how some MLB teams don't always play so well, William K. Sorry! They have been an underdog for a long time, haven't they? I haven't followed baseball in a long time but I remember them historically being a bit more, shall we say, "challenged" than other teams. But I suppose they don't have a massive budget either, do they?

A while back it appeared that our famous "Detroit Tigers" were not playing any better than I do. Which is to say, not very well. For what they ghet paid I would certainly work very hard at all times.

Yes, it's not a bad idea, William K. I think one of our other readers also suggested it. There actually is a robot World Cup for soccer so maybe a robot World Series to start and then perhaps they can enter the MLB. OK, I am joking, but the way some teams play, it seems like it could help!
