Oh, I'm impressed by this fiber, I just like to put new stuff in perspective of the old stuff I know.  

1 kg 2 lb garment would have 180WH of storage.   That's 3 times the capacity of my largest lenova x61 battery pack.

Trenth,

Now factor in how much of the supercap material can be added to the clothing. I bet it would be sizable.

We all know supercaps will have a lower density. But the charge time is a huge plus. Seconds, not hours.

Energy Density: 

300F per CC. Supercaps general run at about 2.5V. That's about 150 joules about 40mWh A 1 cm Lithium. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__7565__ZIPPY_50mAh_20C_single_cell.html 50 MA at 3.6V or about 180mWH. That's About 650 Joules. So cool as the new tech is, it's not as much capacity as current LiPoly. They are also about the same current output per g as the lithium, about 1A. A gram of TNT contains about 4000 Joules. Density is around 1.6 for TNT , so about 6400 Joules per CC So to recap: 6500 Joules per cc for TNT 648 Joules per cc for LiPoly 150 Joules per cc for this article fiber super caps.

That's a good idea, naperlou. I think especially for fabrics that need to be very flexible and stretch alot, like in sports-related materials, having the power source woven directly into the material would definitely be a boon.

This material, if it performs as said, would be a great seller of "Electric Clothing." I'm always recharging my cell phone because it works harder in "phone-proof" buildings where I take classes and in some supermarkets. It would eliminate charging my phone several times a day.

Considering all the wearable devices that are coming out, this could be a good way to power them.  I would think that especially for sports monitoring they would be a great solution.

Did that say "300 Farads per cubic centimeter" ? If i've done my sums correctly, that works out to about the energy density of a hand grenade, if fully charged to 3.3V and with a practical low leakage current.

I've done some work on some of these new power sources for wearable tech, Cabe, and this one definitely seems to be quite interesting. The idea that it can be woven into clothing is unique--I haven't seen this yet so far from other solutions. Not so surprising carbon and graphene are involved! They seem to be at the foundation of many great inventions these days.
