Compatibility issues are often the bane of a test engineer's existence - partial compatibility is still not compatibility and can cost a lot of valuable time when trying to come up with a viable workaround - especially with the telling remark from Cabe's article, "Given its present lack of support, however, the Banana cannot compete with the plethora of Raspberry Pi-friendly resources for the average DIYer." Having accessible resources for design and troubleshooting questions are worth their weight in gold! It will be awhile before I would consider switching fruit - even with the greater potassium content...

Cabe, this seems like a good improvement over the Rashberry Pi, even given some compatibility issues. 

I have also seen commercial vendor parts that are compatible with the Arduino series of boards.  This is an interesting trend, in both cases.  The nice thing about a vendor board is that, if you make something commercially viable, you have a good source of product immediatly.  For example, Freescale has a Discovery Kit for their Kinetis series of microcontrollers that is Arduino compatible.  This allows one to mix and match while experimenting. 

Compatibility, standards (even industry standards) are a good thing.
