These two-hour programs are available to all attendees of the Pacific Design and Manufacturing Show, as well as its co-located events: MD&M West, ATX West, PLASTEC West, AeroCon, Electronics West, and WestPack.
Lean Manufacturing -- Tuesday, February 11, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Lean Manufacturing program will cover a wide range of recently introduced plant technology. Lean Six Sigma is a powerful process-improvement methodology that is increasingly employed in a wide variety of industries. In this session, attendees will learn how lean transformation can dramatically empower and engage the workforce with an effort to remain agile, dynamic, and successful as demands grow more complex. The roles and responsibilities needed for a successful lean program will also be discussed.
The program will be presented by Subra Manivannan, quality/continuous improvement manager at Comau (FIAT division), and Stefan Schmidt, process and quality management for VWI-Germany.
Injection Molding: Waste & Cost Reduction -- Tuesday, February 11, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
For direction on making injection molding more efficient, attend Injection Molding: Waste & Cost Reduction. This session looks at troubleshooting injection molded defects, characterizing scientific injection molding principles, systematic deductive analysis of defects, utilizing an analysis flow chart as a guide, and the separation of tooling issue versus process.
The Lab is presented by Steve Erickson, manufacturing engineer at Edwards Lifesciences, and Paul Boettger, owner of Technoject Machinery.
Motors and Motion Control -- Wednesday, February 12 - 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
To get a good understanding of recent developments with motion, attend Motors and Motion Control. This session looks at maximizing motion control technology on the factory floor. A number of new technologies can help machine builders and manufactures improve the performance, operating efficiency, and maintainability of their motion control systems. In this session, you’ll see how these technologies can be incorporated into a modular machine design.
Presenters include Corey Morton, director of technology solutions at B&R Industrial Automation, and Dan Jones, principal at Motion Control Engineering.
New Technologies to Modernize the Factory Floor -- Thursday, February 13, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
You’ll get an overall look at new developments for plant systems and machinery at New Technologies to Modernize the Factory Floor. This session looks at integrating wireless to optimize automation on the factory floor. It will also explore the different equipment manufacturers of wireless-process instrument technology such as Wireless HART. Different applications will be covered, such as the usage in moveable vessels/workstations showing the flexibility of a wireless application. Wireless technology has not been rampantly employed due to security issues, such as wireless signals not being secure, and the possibility of electromagnetic interference with critical stations in a plant. These issues have been resolved. It is time to employ wireless technology into your existing plants and new ones.
The presenter is Paul Selzer, principal calibration engineer at Baxter Bioscience.
Packaging Line Optimization -- Thursday, February 13, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
To get a great view of developments in packaging, attend Packaging Line Optimization. This session looks at strategies for equipment and operational performance in packaging. It will explore the new technologies that can be utilized to optimize machines and also the supporting infrastructure behind today's packaging and manufacturing systems.
Presenters include B&R's Morton; Sari Germanos, technology marketing manager at Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group; and Tom Gentle, director of lean enterprise at Pharmavite.
