In an attempt to help users speed the product development process, Siemens PLM Software has introduced Rapid Start, a configuration of the company’s Teamcenter lifecycle management system. Rapid Start was designed to streamline product development by providing a quick, low-risk method for handling product data management.
The tool provides multi-CAD data management capabilities created to enable manufacturers to easily manage, control, and share mechanical CAD data across the design and supply chain. This is a single view of product data. "With Teamcenter Rapid Start, we let our customers jump right into PDM deployment so they can start realizing ROI from day one, yet still provide the flexibility for customers to grow into more advanced PLM capabilities as their PLM maturity grows,” Eric Sterling, senior vice president of lifecycle collaboration software, told Design News in an email.
Siemens has also simplified its software implementation process to provide customers with quicker access to applications. The new approach separates Teamcenter applications from being dependent on a specific version of the larger Teamcenter platform. As a result, new solutions will now be available up to three times faster, and customers will be able to implement new applications without being required to upgrade the platform.
Part of the development of the Teamcenter application approach was prompted by user input. "We listened to our customers and incorporated their feedback into the new Teamcenter application approach," Sterling told us. "By separating key applications from the larger platform, we've simplified the way that customers can take advantage of Teamcenter and more easily use the new applications we are developing."
Over the past year, Siemens has introduced a number of applications that can be used with the multiple versions of Teamcenter, including Briefcase Browser for supplier integration, Substance Compliance for sustainability initiatives, Product Cost Management for providing visibility into cost throughout product lifecycle, and the Quality Management application.
