Lithium-air has tremendous potential. Maybe the transmission electron microscope described here could help make some of that potential usable. The problem for many years has been that the battery has to somehow access the oxygen in the air without allowing in any water or nitrogen. Doing that with ambient air is a very, very tough task. Maybe this process could help.
