I agree, apresher.  However, if I remember right, the Profi- guys also have something called Profi-net (or something like that) which is basically the Profi comms over the ethernet hardware, not unlike EthernetIP, neither of which will talk to each other.

Rob, The only regional aspect I see is Ethernet protocol usage: EtherNet/IP stronger in North America, Profinet stronger especially in Europe.

Nice article, Al. Do you see a regional aspect to Ethernet adoption? I was under the impression that it's stronger in Europe than North America. I would also imagine it's picking up in Asia, since so much of the greenfield projects are in Asia.
