Axially stiff coupling combines the angular misalignment capacity of a universal joint with the radial misalignment capacity of a flexible coupling.
Though designed to offer generous angular and radial misalignment compensation, the Loewe GK ("Lion") coupling resists axial motion, ensuring the transmission of push-pull loads. Developer and manufacturer Schmidt Kupplung says that for this double function the coupling is relatively short and compact. The Loewe family is available in a range of diameters between 27 and 200 mm, and in materials from pure aluminum to stainless steel and alloys. Bearings are plastic in the smaller models and needle bearings are available in the larger pieces. The crossed pins of the central link section can slide easily in the bearings, allowing a pivotal and radial displacement of the two hubs without any side and bearing loads. Main applications for these couplings are stepper motors, valves, and other duties where axial stiffness is necessary.
