Annapolis Junction, MD--This interchangeable pinch valve offers standard ASME or DIN face-to-face dimensions common to ball, plug, butterfly, or gate valves. Credit its flexible-wall, high-pressure, molded elastomer tube. Transversely directed folds provide enough material to allow pinch-closing without stretching the tube and requiring a longer body.

Manufactured in Europe and the U.S., and patented by RF Technologies, Inc., the valve features an epoxy-coated cast, ductile iron, or 316 stainless-steel body for pressure ratings to 600 psi. The unit's ID varies between 1 inch and 40 inches. Recessed openings formed in the valve body's interior wall receive the tube folds, allowing unobstructed, full-port flow.
Made from elastomers such as DuPont's Vitronģ, the valve tube stands up to chemically active and corrosive process conditions, as well as abrasion and scaling. Reinforcing cords, fabricated from GE's Kevlarô, ensure extra performance under high loads.
"Because there is no valve stem, packing, or seals," says company President Eric Feldmann, "the seamless, molded tube represents the first line of defense against fugitive emissions. Should tube wear occur, a Smart Valvemonitoring system alerts users of the need for maintenance before loss of valve integrity occurs."
If the tube is allowed to wear further and leak, a sealed valve body provides a third level of containment. Leaks are de-tectable inside the valve with an optional sensor.
The high-strength elastomer tube is the only wear part in contact with the process stream. Users can accomplish changeout without specialized tools or skills, Feldmann notes, further reducing maintenance costs.
Designed for slurries and corrosive liquids, as well as bulk powders, the valve has found application in pulp and paper mills, chemical and mineral processing plants, and industrial waste systems.
