bad science as a plot device

very true, how rare it is to have good science finding its way into a movie plot. I've admired James Cameron for a long time as I think he puts a lot of effort into the projects he does.  Science fact and fiction should not be such strangers?!  I've often heard that keeping an open mind is good, but having it so open your brain falls out is not good.

"Armageddon" (the movie more so than the real thing) gives me willies.  Just so many bad premises stacked on even more horrible suppositions.  Scaling problems, like just how big is the interior bay of those super-shuttles?  Who puts machine guns on the rover in the first place?  And why does an asteroid diversion require a manned landing?  ugggh!
