Ocean waves are an unlimited source of kinetic energy. Harnessing this energy
with hydraulic-powered pumps could provide an inexhaustible source of clean
Ascending and descending wave motion oscillates the hydraulic-pump piston using a floater and cable set up. As the piston moves upward, water is pumped to an elevated-storage reservoir. As the piston descends, it draws sea water into the cylinder for the next pumping cycle.
Under average tidal conditions, a 10.5-ft-diameter float with a 4,700 gallon displacement could elevate about 20,000 gallons of sea water per hour to 330 ft. This amount of stored water equals about 20.5 kW/hr or 27.5 HP/hr.

Insensitive trigger probe
| MIDATM TTP’s stylus must deflect significantly before contacting the microswitch. Higher speeds and insensitivity to falsetriggering result.
For accurate and repeatable measurements on machine tools,
fixed-stylus touch-trigger probes (TTPs) are highly sensitive, and must return
to a precise rest position between each measurement. Result: less throughput and
sensitivity to false triggering.
A free-stylus design with no precisely defined rest position, has the stylus take a random position anywhere in the neutral zone. Because the stylus must deflect before contacting the microswitch, higher speed and insensitivity to false triggering result.

Precision burst discs
| Burst pressure settings range from 1 to 1,000 psi, and operating temperatures range from –452F to 1,000F. A wide selection of materials and orifice diametersof 1/8-inch or larger is available.
When it comes to containing pressure extremes, electrical or mechanical system failure can destroy costly equipment and materials, or result in personal injury.
Traditionally used in nuclear submarines or space shuttle applications, precision burst discs now find application in chemical processing, transportation, and other industries.
Custom-designed burst discs use a Belleville spring to hold a diaphragm in position. Once the calculated preload is exceeded, the diaphragm dynamically contacts a hollow punch and ruptures.

| Tungsten grit coating allows more effective clamping, smaller pulling dogs.
Tungsten grit, obtained from scrap tungsten carbide, can prove useful in gripping/clamping applications. One example: pulling dogs for extruding tube and bar products.
Oil, grease, and extrusion particles tend to clog conventional pulling dogs, requiring frequent remachining. A 50-micron tungsten grit, metallurgically bonded to the gripping surface with a smooth nickel braze finish, penetrates oily films.
Benefits? Less slippage, greater accuracy, longer life.
