Inductive Automation has published a design guide focused on how to access HMI/SCADA screens via the iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry and other personal mobile devices. Of course, to do so, designers need to use Inductive Automation’s Ignition Mobile Module. This module will be part of Ignition v7.2, which is scheduled to be released January 25.
Ignition is a software platform providing a variety of HMI/SCADA and manufacturing execution systems (MES) modules that can be mixed and matched depending on the automation designer’s needs.
Requests for mobile HMI/SCADA access is increasing for many machine designers, as widely accessible machine data empowers end users to keep an eye on critical data at all times. Operators and managers can respond in real time to control system alerts, check on system status, make notations, etc.
The pitch around Ignition v7.2 is the potential for optimizing mobile design projects. Designers can currently launch any existing Ignition project on a mobile device. However, that project may not be optimized for a mobile. For example, the aspect ratio or security may not be set up appropriately. These issues are addressed with the new Mobile Module.
Inductive Automation’s design guide is focused on helping designers create a project that is optimized for mobile devices while keeping the look and feel consistent with those devices.
