MATERIALS: Utilizing an eco-friendly grade of Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s Bayblend® polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (PC/ABS) blend resin, Nexxus Lighting Inc. has created a “green” LED lamp that decreases energy use without compromising quality.
Additionally, injection molding the lamp housings for its Array™ Lighting line with this material also reduces Nexxus Lighting’s carbon footprint, helping the company create a brighter tomorrow, today.
Bayblend FR610 GR PC/ABS blend resin offers a minimum of 10 percent post-consumer recycled content and at least 30 percent post-industrial recycled content for a total of at least 40 percent recycled content. Importantly, for this application, the antimony-, bromine-, and chlorine-free material also meets UL 94 V0 at 1.5 mm thickness and 5V A at 3.0 mm thickness, while at the same time maintaining the properties of a typical flame-rated PC/ABS product, including good rigidity, hardness, dimensional stability, impact strength and creep resistance.
The Array line of lamps is designed and engineered to use patent pending, Selective Heat Sink TechnologyTM (SHS), a ground-breaking approach to thermal management, according to Nexxus Lighting. SHS Technology uses proprietary design and materials to lower thermal resistance to record levels, which allows an array of low power, high efficacy LEDs to achieve exceptional performance.
Nexxus Lighting’s Array LED lamps use a larger number (40-120) of high efficacy, low power dies and its SHS Technology places thermal heat sink rods at key junction points in the circuit board. This means heat is drawn away right at the source and moved away as quickly as possible to keep the LEDs and electrical components cool and efficient. This has also given Nexxus Lighting the ability to automate the process, reducing cost and enabling the company to meet growing customer demand.
