MATERIALS: IMSEAL-800™ a high-strength epoxy resin, seals gross (visible) porosity in castings and other metal parts. It completely and permanently fills blowholes, cracks and other such defects where welding or brazing would be impractical. Available from IMPCO Inc., the clear, multi-purpose sealant is also ideal for laminating, potting and encapsulating.
Most repair resins seal only the surface of the metal and can be chipped off later, but IMSEAL-800 is drawn beneath the surface, penetrating and filling porosity. Without the need for reinforcing materials, it fills all interconnected passageways, producing a leak-proof seal superior to those of most other spot-sealing resins. The sealed area is pressure-tight and can be drilled, tapped, machined and otherwise processed without worry.
Economical and easy to use, IMSEAL-800 comes in a pre-measured, easy-mix packet. The epoxy and activator are mixed before the packet is opened and the packaging itself can be used as the applicator. Once mixed, the low-viscosity (750 cps), modified epoxy has a pot life of ± 45 min at room temperature. It cures at room temperature or can be accelerated by heat. Once cured, it withstands pressure, impact and a broad range of chemicals and temperatures. Resistant to most fuels, oils, alcohols, glycols, solvents, salts, mild acids, Freon® and most other common liquids and gases, cured IMSEAL-800 typically withstands constant service temperatures from - 65 to 350F. It has a Rockwell hardness of 97, a tensile strength of 9,000 psi, a compressive strength of 35,000 psi and a compressive yield of 16,500 psi (typical maximums).
Three other IMSEAL formulations are available by special order: aluminum-filled IMSEAL-801, brass-filled IMSEAL-802, and iron-filled IMSEAL-803.
