Engineers at small and mid-sized companies struggling to understand how to best leverage MCAD with limited resources might want to take note of a new PTC resource. The CAD company just launched a new resource center aimed at giving SMB companies an indoctrination to the benefits of 3-D CAD along with a crash course in PTC products.
The site admittedly serves as a PTC marketing tool, but there are valuable resources for SMB companies, especially for engineers trying to make a case to their management to fund a 3-D design tool upgrade. Along with a variety of customer testimonials, there are multimedia demonstrations, PTC-written feature articles and analyst-sponsored white papers on a variety of big-picture topics like how to optimize collaboration on product development to more nitty-gritty material on how to use specific product capabilities to enhance design performance. The resource center features direct links to a variety of external PTC-related forums and communities, and access to the site is free.
There are three sections on the site:
Business Performance, which showcases articles, reports, white papers and webcasts on key business initiatives that are relevant for SMBs, including a focus on areas such as design reuse, reduction of production scrap and rework and virtual prototyping.
Exploring 3-D Design, a section of diverse content covering what’s involved in 3-D design, from what to consider when migrating from 2D to 3D, to what’s the most efficient way of coping with a high number of design changes. In this space, fellow engineers also pen articles touting their own design best practices.
The third area of the site is targeted at existing Pro/Engineer users. Here, they can find information on available modules offered up for Pro/E along with software updates and tips information.
