SENSORS: Leica Geosystems’ Leica TM30, which succeeds the company’s Leica TCS2003 and TCA1800, incorporates accuracy, reliability and robust design for monitoring applications. Equipped with direct drives based on piezo technology, the Leica TM30 allows shorter measurement cycles when working with multiple prisms, is fast and quiet. It offers angle measurements of 0.5 or 1 inch and distances can be measured with the company’s PinPoint EDM Technology, which has precision of 0.6 mm + 1 ppm on prisms. On natural surfaces, accuracy of 2 mm + 2 ppm is achieved.
Engineers at Fuel Cell Energy have found a way to take advantage of a side reaction, unique to their carbonate fuel cell that has nothing to do with energy production, as a potential, cost-effective solution to capturing carbon from fossil fuel power plants.
This is part one of an article discussing the University of Washington’s nationally ranked FSAE electric car (eCar) and combustible car (cCar). Stay tuned for part two, tomorrow, which will discuss the four unique PCBs used in both the eCar and cCars.
Researchers working with additive manufacturing have said multimaterial techniques will allow industry “to fabricate materials with combinations of density, strength, and thermal expansion that do not exist [yet].”
