Looking for fast and reasonably cost-effective way to create 3D models of your design—then produce an actual physical prototype? 3D Systems Corp., which markets rapid prototyping solutions, is teaming up with CAD provider Alibre Inc. to deliver an integrated solution.
3D Systems’ new V-Flash Desktop Modeler, the first product based on its new Film Transfer Imaging (FTI) technology platform, will include the Alibre Design Xpress 3D CAD package for no extra charge. Alibre Design Xpress is Alibre’s scaled down, free version of its parametric, 3D CAD tool. The companies are positioning the bundle as a way to introduce rapid prototyping capabilities to a broader range of applications and as a way to make what they call “art to part” capabilities accessible to anyone, even those with limited budgets or technical CAD skills.
V-Flash Desktop Modeler has a base price of $9,900.

I’ve been referring to it as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), not to be confused with the plain old Internet of Things (IoT). Others refer to it as the Connected Industry, the smart factory concept, M2M, data extraction, and so on.
