A couple decades ago, I bought a Maytag dishwasher. I discovered the filter by accident when I replaced the entire spin assembly. I had continual problems with the detergent cup latch not working, and fixed it a couple of times. But overall, I felt the machine gave us good service for about 20 years.
We decided to replace it about three years ago. We put in a Kenmore, which worked pretty well for a little more than two years. However, the dishes weren’t getting any cleaner than with the Maytag from 20 years ago (which is why we decided to replace the Maytag in the first place). They were actually not as clean -- unless you spaced the dishes in an every other rack position. The Maytag held more dishes, and the silverware holder was positioned on the top rack for easy access. Not so with the new Kenmore.
Just after the two-year (extended credit card purchase) warrantee ran out, the Kenmore stopped working. Online help indicated it was probably the thermal protective cutout. It was easy to access, but it checked out good. The next most likely part to fail was that new-fangled, touch keypad that gets all of the humidity from inside the unit. So I ordered one. It was on national back order, so it took four weeks.
I replaced the keypad ($85 delivered), and things worked fine -- for about four weeks. Then there was no response again. So I’m thinking I have another bad keypad. Just in case, I checked the thermal switch and it was bad this time. I ordered one for $25, and now we are back in business.
Every time I push the “start” button on the touchpad, I have serious doubts if it will actually start. I wish we had that Maytag back.
