Being a starving college student, $500.00 is a lot of money. Buying and having to replace my fuel pump was the last thing I wanted to spend my money on. My fuel pump cracked right at the point where the gas hose attaches to the pump. Not only does it cause awful gas fumes but it’s a fire hazard as well.
I took my car to the mechanic to find out what the awful smell of gas was that was flowing though my car’s air vents, only to find out that it was in the back of my car where the gas tank was, he lifted my car up felt around where the tank was and literally had gas on his hand, this is where the fun part came in. He gave me an estimate as to how much it would cost.
I went home that night and did my research to see if there had been any recalls on this specific situation. In my findings there are many people who have had very similar problems. The sad part is there has been no recall on this yet. Saturn has left their users high and dry with many defects on this particular car. The part was cheaply made and should have not worn out the way it did (according to the mechanic). It’s no wonder why this company is no longer in business.
The most problem I got on my saturn is ignition module or an ignition coil may fail causing an engine misfire, the Check Engine Light may or may not illuminate. Diagnoses will be required to determine the cause and needed repair. And you have to buy new Saturn parts.
