Edgar W. BlackmonMy 2003 Ford Expedition has paint bubbling on the hood and the rear deck. It started at 60,000 miles. I went to the Ford dealer in my town and they said it was not a defect. I looked at other Expeditions that I saw and started warning people that this could happen to their trucks.
The problem is documented in many web sites, including this one: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0bf2ce/15.
I went to one of the highest-cost car refinishers in my area and asked about getting it repaired. He said that if he repaired the problem, the bubbling would just recur.
The 2002 - 2004(?) Ford Expeditions have aluminum hoods and rear hatches. The paint on these surfaces bubbles. It’s defined as galvanic rust. Ford says it is not a recall issue. Paint shops say if you repair it, the problem will recur.
