So you want to buy an electric car but you don’t know where you’d charge it up?
Homebuilder KB Home has a solution for you. The company says it will soon begin “offering an option to pre-wire its new Built to Order homes to accommodate charging stations for homeowners’ electric vehicles.” In a press release, the company states that the new “earth-friendly option” is designed to make it easier for homeowners to charge their plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles.
The option is now available to KB Home homebuyers nationwide. The press release does not state whether KB’s homes would be wired for 440V or 220V or both.
Nissan has said that voltage levels could make a gigantic difference in charging time. On the company’s soon-to-be released Leaf electric vehicle, a 220V, 15 A line would reportedly take the battery from fully depleted to fully charged in seven to eight hours. In contrast, a 440V line could take the Nissan EV from fully depleted to 80% charged in about 25 minutes, Nissan has said.
For industrial control applications, or even a simple assembly line, that machine can go almost 24/7 without a break. But what happens when the task is a little more complex?
