One psychologist postulated that a woman's voice is more accepted in consumer products because as kids, it was easier to take instruction from mom than it was taking instruction from dad.

Consider voice mail systems, Rob. Virtually every voice mail system uses a woman's voice (many times, it seems to be the same woman). I've never heard a male voice on voice mail.

You're right, Chuck. The only male computer voice that I remember with any clarity is HAL from 2001 A Space Odyssey. We all know how that turned out.

In order to keep in line with safety protocols, industrial networks need to be filtered in a semantic way so that only information related to diagnostics is flowing back to the vendor and that any communications that could be used for remote machine operations are suppressed.
