I think as of yesterday they aren't debating this bill.  Maybe next time.

Anytime you start an article with "Congress" anything after that is lost. These clowns cannot even agree to disagree! And it usually means that I have to pay more so some big business can pedal the latest green initiative!

Correct on Shaheen-Portman. It was defeated on vote this week. But it still has many lives, look for it during the lame duck session at the end of the year.

Jobs, but at what cost?

The question is what type of jobs? Are these more government jobs? We do not need more government jobs. The taxpayers can't afford to pay for more government workers. How is Congress forcing the creation of jobs a good thing? Nope. Let the market work.

More goverment Bable

If you follow the link and read the paper about this bill this is what you get.

How? By doing more with less, meeting people's need for heat, cold, light, and electronics while using less energy. The measures in Shaheen-Portman include provisions to:
  • Help states improve their building energy codes and implement them more effectively;
  • Consider the energy efficiency of homes when underwriting mortgages to recognize that families that pay lower energy bills can afford a slightly higher mortgage payment;
  • Strengthen federal assistance to industry to improve competitiveness by making plants more efficient; and
  • Other provisions, including on public energy use information for commercial buildings and on efficiency in federal data centers, schools, and more.

So basically it more of our money to creat more programs and more force to make the people do what theny think we should.  On top of that putting our money into creating these programs they then expect us to put in more money to actually carry out these efforts.

How does anybody support more of this bable.  If a company will be improved competitvely by makeing effeciency changes then let them decide and do it (which if the Co wants to grow and stay they will)  We do not need big brother telling us what to do.

On the jobs created you have to ask were the money is going to come from for these jobs.  Everyone always forgets if you spend money here (on improvng energy effeciency) then you are not spending it on spmething else that would create other jobs often times more jobs.  Again please let people use their common sense to decide were their own money is best suited to go more often than not they will make far bettery decisions than 15 goverment minders and programs could do.

End of Rant

I agree, the bill will probably not pass or even be debated on for that matter unless it's backed by lobbyists from major corporations.
