Looks like a good one this year! i'll be interested to see who wins, though it seems Andrew Morris has a bit of a flying start and a good chance with three entries.

I agree, Elizabeth, Andrew is in a good position. However, there is some real competition here. It's neck-to-neck right now.

I suspect you are right, Rob, it is anyone's game. It's quite a talented bunch we've got here!

Given that all of the semi-finalists meet a high level of quality, the final winner will likely be the the gadget that meets either the cool factor or the "I could use this" factor.

Wow it's great to see that we have a place for innovation. I can't wait to see what innovative gadgets we have.

GADGET FREAK OF THE YEAR

I have no idea as to how many marvelous concepts started out as mere "gadgets".   Designers, engineers, and "lay people" wanting to improve a situation or do serious "what-if" work that ultimately lead to devices, eventually commercialized, solving problems for millions.    This might be up for discussion, but one Mr. T. Edison was possibly the greatest gadget freak of all time.  I think Allied is to be commended for sponsoring such a great contest and I would hope they keep up the good work.

Bobjengr, Henry Ford was a pretty good Gadget Freak himself -- a devoted hobbyist. Tesla as well. That's how it all starts.

@Rob: True and I feel the gadget concept is rising again. It has started to capture the eyes of most of the people these days and they relate to different industries altogether.

This year's finalists for the Gadget Freak of the Year definitely deserve to be there and even though I have not followed the progress this year as much as I would have loved to, it looks like Andrew Morris has all but bagged this one, especially with 'A gadget's call for assistance' which is, in my view, very practical innovation and one that could easily trickle down to the masses

Jacob Hartman's project, 'Gloved hand controls airplane's flight' seems to be the most advanced in terms of technology out of the list of the final four contenders for the Gadget freak of the year. That said, am sure that aviation authorities will have a lot to say before this gadget eventually finds commercial application and this, to some extent, reduces its practicability.
