Nice Warren,

Your dreamer's gadget just underscores how much work our Gadget Freaks put into their submissions. They do it without any indication they will be rewarded with a Gadget Freak spread.

How about a dreamer's gadget contest.  The rules would be:

* A stick-figure drawing of you and your idea

* A short video of us in our underwear watching "Lost" instead of doing something with our spare time

* A fake bill of materials

* Pretend instructions with fake photos, dream description, and what we wish it would do.

* The schematic of something we built once.

This would be for all of us who never got around to doing the things we thought we would as young engineers.

There is no limit, MrDon. We have had a number of Gadget Freaks who have submitted numerous gadgets over the years. We try to space them out, though.

Got it! Is there a limit to the number of submissions made to the Gadget Freak column?

Sounds great, MrDon. Here are the basics of what we need:
  • A picture of you and the gadget
  • A short video showing the gadget at work
  • A bill of materials (with Allied Electronics part numbers where applicable)
  • Build instructions (with photos, a description of the gadget, and step-by-step instructions).
  • A schematic

You can send it along to: rob.spiegel@ubm.com

Good idea, Nancy. Last month we featured a teenager's gadget. You can see it here:

What a great way to get our two teenage boys on board - we'll be looking around the garage this weekend and our electronics "stuff" to see what might be a fun and innovative project. I see a "family gadget" in our near future!
