From the creators of Kellog's Cornflakes came the Battle Creek Vibratory Chair used in the Michigan sanitarium to cure what ails ya. Or the Violet Ray generator effective for beauty, health, and strength. These medical devices from years gone by and some from not so long ago are proudly displayed online at the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices (www.mtn.org/~quack). The site also features Great American Quacks and an Ephemera Collection, plus a plethora of quack links.
e-hub for medical devices
Doxamed.com (www.doxamed.com) calls itself the e-hub for the medical device industry and we found a huge directory on the site, as well. The site features news, an e-meeting service, links to medical device companies and regulatory agencies, contract manufacturing links, and R&D sites. In addition, check out the employment listings and financing and legal sections.
The safety game
If automotive safety is your game, then head on over to www.carcrash.org, the site for the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine, a professional multidisciplinary organization dedicated entirely to motor vehicle crash injury prevention and control. The site offers links to a child booster seat conference, training sessions in biomechanics of impact trauma, plus tons of information on crash injury dynamics.
A database for everyone
The U.S. National Library of Medicine (www.nlm.nih.gov) features a listing of databases and electronic information sources. Links include Health Care Technology, Space Life Science, Grateful Med, and more.
AdvaMed.org
The Advanced Medical Technology Association, www.advamed.org, is one of the largest medical technology associations, representing more than 800 manufacturers of medical devices, diagnostic products and medical information systems. Their site features membership information as well as a section discussing the industry in detail. The association is active in legislation and lobbying and highlights its testimony and actions in Congress.
'Nother org
The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (www.aami.org) is another medical device organization. Their site features a directory of medical technology consultants, a pretty extensive listing of jobs, links to their peer-reviewed journal, and digital archives of content presented at their annual meeting.
