Staring at Little White Lines
Terry Costlow, Contributing Editor -- Design News, July 14, 2008
Cameras are playing a key role as the auto industry looks forward to active safety systems. One is set to debut when Fiat's Lancia unveils the Delta. It uses TRW Automotive's video-based lane departure system, which uses a camera to watch the white lines and determine when the vehicle is drifting toward the lane markings. The system warns the drifting driver with gentle guidance/haptic feedback through the steering wheel. The camera is mounted on the rearview mirror so it's inside and has a clear view of the roadway.
