Stolen laptops are a growing security risk, whether they store thousands of Social Security numbers or an individual owner’s financial data. Biometric sensors provide another tool in the battle to protect security, providing privacy without adding to the list of passwords.
Atmel Corp. and Phoenix Technologies Ltd. teamed up to target the laptop market, blending Atmel’s FingerChip sensor with SecureCore Pre-boot Authentication software from Phoenix. Thieves won’t be able to start computers that employ the hardware-software combination.
