Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies Corp., is collaborating with MTU Aero Engines to build a new generation 23,000 lb thrust Geared Turbofan engine for the Bombardier CSeries aircraft that seats 110 to 130 passengers. The new jet engine is designed for fuel efficiency, low engine noise and environmental performance at low operating costs. The Bombardier is expected to launch its aircraft with the Geared Turbofan engine in 2008. Pratt & Whitney turned to MTU for its expertise in producing low-pressure compressor and engine control units.
