Energy Focus Helps Achieve Solar Cell Efficiency
Design News Staff -- Design News, September 24, 2007
Energy Focus Inc. delivered a 42.8 efficiency solar cell as part of the Very High Efficiency Solar Cell consortium (VHESC). The company contributed this development as part of the federal government's Defense Advance Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contract. The highly efficient VHESC solar cell uses a novel lateral optical concentrating system that splits sunlight into three different energy bins in order to optimize absorption and conversion. The stationary VHESC optical system is capable of absorbing large amounts of light without using a complicated tracking device.
