| CT webHMIControl Technology Corp. |
Designed to work with Control Technology’s Blue Fusion (5100 Series) of web-based controllers for factory automation environments, webHMI enables users to create a human machine interface project on a PC with CT HMI Builder software, and then host it on a 5100 controller to monitor and manage processes in a plant from any location via a web browser. Users can adjust switches and dials, enter data and change recipe settings. CT webHMI eliminates the need for dedicated HMI panels and third-party software. For maintenance, CT webHMI projects can be uploaded to a remote PC for editing and then downloaded to the controller.

| LabVIEW 8National Instruments |
National Instruments has added distributed intelligence capabilities to its graphical development environment for industrial measurement and control applications. Engineers can use the platform to design, distribute and synchronize intelligent devices and systems, whether for simple data transfer or for deterministic real-time communication and network synchronization with integrated alarms, events and data logging. LabVIEW 8 includes a new project-based environment for developing and managing large-scale applications, as well as updates to its Real-Time, FGPA, PDA, and Datalogging and Supervisory Control modules. Engineers can combine LabVIEW graphical dataflow programming with MathScript, a math-oriented textual programming language, and select the most appropriate syntax – graphical, textual, or a combination, to define the operation of their code.

GORE On-Line High Flex Cable Design W. L. GORE & Associates |
Engineers can use Gore’s new online tool to design a high flex cable that meets their specific application requirements. The alternatives are to settle for standard catalog cables, fill-out generic forms, or engage in back-and-forth design discussions with a cable supplier. The benefits to using the online tool are shorter design time, simplified design effort, faster delivery. The tool provides step-by-step instructions for designing cables using standard components. Cables are likely to be smaller and more reliable. Gore promises that the tool won’t allow users to violate principles that would be detrimental to the flex life of the cable in the end application.

SynthOS Zeidman Technologies, Inc. |
Engineers working with Systems on Chips (SOC) can appreciate the benefits of small, fast and reliable real time operating systems (RTOSes). SynthOS has been used to build 900 byte RTOSes with latency times below 10 microseconds and a handful of statements versus hundreds of APIs. Users can write tasks in C, adding simple statements to describe inter-task communication. A configuration file specifies RTOS parameters, and SynthOS automatically generates C code for the RTOS without deadlocks or race conditions. The code can run on smaller, less expensive, lower power processors and overall development time and costs are significantly decreased. SynthOS works with all processors that have C compilers, and most debuggers, interpreters and emulators are compatible.
