Know Your Standards—One Way to Cut Hidden Costs in CAD

Integration expert and Design News give you some tips to save money

Wai Li -- Design News, March 10, 2005

“Designers by nature are very creative,” conceded John Libert, Product Marketing Manager of Cyco Software (www.cyco.com/solutions). “These days we all use CAD systems with tons of functionalities and all of a sudden as a designer you’re not directly bound or tied down any more by any company standards.”

Addressing hidden costs for a Wednesday conference at the National Manufacturing Week, Libert urged companies to enforce their standards again and make them the preferred components in the CAD system, that is, an efficient use of stock.

Companies must also address issues such as human errors, missing handover deadlines, logistics, etc., to significantly save unnecessary costs, Libert said.

“Real-time access for all users in the company including from within CAD applications can protect profit margins by eliminating costs due to misinformation,” Libert added.

In a November study, Design News found that choosing the right CAD software can also help avoid hidden costs.
