Samsung is the latest company to employ technology from SRS Labs Inc. (www.srslabs.com) to boost performance of small speakers. Samsung will use the WOW audio enhancement technology from SRS in a 17-inch LCD TV. Flat panel TVs have high performance expectations, but limited space for speakers has posed a problem. WOW combines TruBass and Digital Clarity, developed by SRS, to compensate for the limitations of small speakers by dispersing sound along horizontal and vertical axes while enhancing the bass. Sony recently adopted WOW for its Vaio W Desktop PC, which provides CD, DVD, and TV playback.
