Sensing pedestrians
By Design News Staff -- Design News, June 2, 2003
Siemens VDO Automotive (www.usa.siemensvdo.com) has recently presented findings of contact sensing technologies for active pedestrian protection systems. According to new European legislation, carmakers must pass a series of tests on frontal impact between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Siemens has investigated the use of contact sensing technologies in profile detection, deformation velocity, contact surface and signal evaluation, force sensing resistors, inductive contact sensors, and sensor prototypes in the bumper area.
