Out of thin air

Wind energy is clearly a hot topic today—and growing in importance. Bearing giant SKF, which works closely with wind turbine manufacturers to supply main bearings, and bearings for the transmission, generators, and blade pitch systems, says that its sales to the industry have doubled in 2001. In fact, wind energy could supply up to 20% of U.S. energy needs, says the American Wind Energy Association.
