Arrays
The P-channel MOSFET ball grid arrays (BGAs) are packaged devices with footprint dimensions ranging from 2.0 × 2.0 mm to 3.5 × 4.0 mm. The BGAs do not require external charge pump circuitry and are 2.5/4.5V gate-drive specified. For space utilization, the BGAs have a "Footprint Figure-Of-Merit" reportedly lower than competitive devices housed in other common packages. Applications include load switching in portable, wireless, and networking operations. Fairchild Semiconductor, www.fairchildsemi.com. Enter 642
Lighting control
The IR2166 ballast control IC replaces a separate ballast control IC, gate driver IC, PFC IC, and discrete circuitry, reportedly cutting the ballast cost by up to 30%. The IR2166 incorporates a state machine to control the operating sequence of the ballast, including under-voltage lockout, preheat, ignition, and run and fault modes. Transmitter
The OM-CP-RFTEMP101 is a miniature, wireless, battery-powered temperature transmitter that uses an externally accessible push button to start or stop the transmitter. Data is received at the PC using the receiving antenna that attaches directly to the serial port. Using Windows software, data can be printed in a graphical or tabular format or can be exported to a text or Excel file. OMEGA Engineering, www.omega.com. Enter 644
Connectors
The 6304 SC and 62404 FC fiber-optic connectors have insertion loss values that are reportedly less than 0.2 dB, minimizing power loss in the connection. Both models are pre-radiused, assuring signal integrity by maintaining optical contact across environmental changes. The connectors can operate in temperatures ranging from 14 to 140F. 3M, www.3m.com. Enter 645
Relays
TRDU time-delay relays have standard 8- and 11-pin base wiring, simplifying substitution for other relays. These devices have 21 timing functions. Any of the 10 single functions or 11 dual functions can be selected by transferring one or more of the six programming switches. Timing functions include delay on make, delay on break, interval, single shot, recycling, and motion detector. Available time delays range from 0.1 sec to more than 1,705 hours, in eight ranges. Sensor
The Series 7000 Non-Contacting Angular Position Sensor (NCAPS®) measures just under 8 mm (0.21 inches) thick without housing. The sensor features 360° rotary position feedback in a sealed package and multiple outputs with up to four functional output channels. Applications include motion control, rotary position, or steering angle sensing. BEI Duncan Electronics, www.beiduncan.com. Enter 647
Connector
The CHAMP Z-DOK connector is capable of up to 6.25 Gbps data rates while permitting standard board materials and routing techniques. A TRI-Q contact system maximizes data throughput and minimizes pair-to-pair crosstalk and impedance discontinuities. The connector uses the CHAMP 0.50 connector interface in a blindmate design for docking applications. Tyco Electronics, www.tycoelectronics.com. Enter 648
Junction boxes
Top Mount multibox® junction boxes are available with 4 or 8-ports, a quick disconnect homerun receptacle, or integral-molded cable. For device wiring, these junction boxes use the industry-standard M12 connector, while an M23 connector is used for the disconnect homerun cable. Applications include maintaining, identifying, and consolidating machine or panel wiring from multiple I/O points. TURCK Inc., www.turck.com. Enter 649
Flowmeters
These air and gas flowmeters are available in three basic models 2020, 2220, 2320, and have a range of flow rates from 5 to 100 SCFM. With a pointer-and-dial face to assure accurate readings, the flow sensor is available in a variable-area orifice for most applications and a fixed-area orifice for more sensitive measurements. Orange Research Inc., www.orangeresearch.com. Enter 650
Module
The FM 355-2 function module for heating, cooling, and combined heating/cooling control systems is available in two variants: FM355-2 C, a continuous control with four analog outputs, and FM355-2 S, a step-action or pulse-controller with eight digital outputs. Applications include HVAC, plastics processing, and swaging and plastic film welding on packaging machines. Siemens, www.siemens.com. Enter 651
Fiber-optic system
The Luminator fiber-optic system, intended for material processing, delivers laser power from laser sources. It protects the fibers from possible damage caused by back-reflection during high-power welding of highly-reflective materials. To handle back-reflection, the Luminator removes heat from the terminations where it is routed to a detector that tells how much back-reflection is being produced. GSI Lumonics, www.gsilumonics.com. Gauges
The SDPGB series of battery-operated digital gauges have real-time, digital readout information and an automatic shutoff feature. Zero and span calibration are both possible when the user has access to a pressure reference. The gauges are suitable for pressure applications that involve measurement of 316 stainless steel-compatible media. SenSym ICT, www.sensym.com. Enter 653
Sensor
The 1650B rotary torque sensor clamps onto the drive train to make the shaft a rotary torque transducer. It avoids the need to break into the drive train to install an in-line torque cell or to install maintenance-intensive slip rings. To install the user clamps on two sensor-shell halves positions the antenna, and connects the wireless receiver. Sensotec Inc., www.sensotec.com. Enter 654
Connector
The Gigabit PulseJack™ connector has integrated magnetics that reportedly extend the data handling capability of the integrated connector module from 10/100 to 1000 Base-TX. Available with or without emitting diodes, the connector comes with a single port (JK series) for network interface cards or with multiple ports (JG and JC series) for server and router applications.
