Quick-connect electrical tubing

By John Lewis, Technical Editor -- Design News, July 8, 2002

Snap-fit locking fingers simplify replacement of rigid conduit with flexible electrical tubing.

This electrical connector makes electrical tubing connections a snap. Actually, make that "a snap and a twist." One end of the nylon connector sports locking fingers that create a snap fit with standardized openings in electrical chassis. And the flexible tubing simply twists onto a threaded ferrule at the connector's opposite end. Neither operation requires tools.

Developed for use in the housing of a Genie garage door opener—between the electric motor and wiring box—the connector helped the company replace rigid conduit with flexible electrical tubing that conforms to tight spaces without a pre-bending step.

In the half-inch size, the connector holds up to as much as 100 lbs of pull force. It's also available in ¼-, 3/8-, and ¾-inch sizes. Other than garage door openers, applications include HVAC systems, motorized equipment, enclosed power sources, and appliances.
