Device converts heat into electricity
By Bruce Wiebusch, Regional Editor -- Design News, April 8, 2002
Peter Hagelstein, an MIT electrical engineering professor, found a better way of getting electricity from waste heat. He combines thermoelectrics and thermionics in a device that converts about 17% of the heat it absorbs into electricity. And, he says, 20 to 25% is possible with improvements. For more information, contact Hagelstein at plh@mit.edu or call (617) 253-0899.
