Cahners Business Information mourns the loss of two executives

Newton, MA — Newton, MA—The September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon struck the Design News family with full force, as we lost two employees.
Jeff Mladenik and Andrew Curry Green were among 92 people killed when terrorists steered American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston to Los Angeles into the north tower of the World Trade Center.
Mladenik, 43, of Hinsdale, Ill., was Interim CEO of eLogic, a Cahners subsidiary, and Vice President of e-Development for the Cahners Manufacturing and Electronics Division.
With Cahners since 1988, he developed strategic plans and new business development for Manufacturing.net, the network portal site for the manufacturing industry and Design News parent website; and e-inSITE.net, the network portal site for EOEM professionals. He also coordinated new media development across the 30 publications within the Cahners Electronics Group as well as M.net.
"Every day, Jeff brought more passion and work than most of us commit to our lives in general," says Jeff Greisch, president, Manufacturing and Electronics Division. "Jeff was truly an exceptional man who I am sure was a calming influence on that fateful flight Tuesday morning. I, as well as everyone who knows him, will miss him greatly."
He also worked on moving this magazine's website to a new platform. "Jeff Mladenik gave generously of his time and great expertise to guide Design News in important decisions involving our website," says Publisher and Editorial Director Larry Maloney. "He was always available to help us."
Mladenik had previously worked at Tripp Lite Manufacturing from 1996 to 1998, and at Toshiba America Electronic Components from 1988 to 1996. He is survived by his wife, Sue, and their four children.
Green, 34, of Santa Monica, CA, was Director of Business Development at eLogic. Instrumental in the development of many of eLogic's key accounts, he served such key clients as NewsEdge and Red Herring. A Cahners employee since 1999, he had previously spent 11 years directing various software development projects. He is survived by his wife, Shannon.
"Everything Andrew did came straight from the heart," says Carl Midson, eLogic's CTO and newly appointed Interim CEO. "He brought a level of professionalism and dedication to all that he was involved in, both professionally and personally. His easygoing, fun-loving, radiant personality touched many of his co-workers in the office. He was a great colleague to all and a personal friend to many. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by us all."
Cahners has established a memorial fund to benefit the families of both men, as well as other company employees whose immediate families were impacted by the tragedies.
