Engineers wanting to attach components to a shaft traditionally had to worry about set screws or even machined mounting features such as shaft keys. The Torksleeve M replaces these methods with a simple two-part fastener consisting of a nut and a slotted sleeve that features an asymmetrical thread that forms a continuous inclined surface. Tightening the nut causes the slotted sleeve to contract, which grips the shaft and clamps the part to the sleeve. It can concentrically mount just about any kind of shaft-borne component — including gears, pulley and sprockets. The axial clamping of Torksleeve M's design makes it especially suited for mounting thin-walled components or plastic components without the need for a metal bushing to stand up to high radial forces. Other uses include the adjustment of shaft position within slots or oversized holes.
