Major players in the music industry are planning to use microSD cards to let consumers buy and transport music without being dependent on a PC or Internet connection. A new format, slotMusic, will carry pre-loaded DRM-free MP3 music from artists associated with EMI Music, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. Best Buy and Wal-Mart will be selling albums in time for the holiday season. microSD cards are supported by cell phones, notebook computers and other equipment, giving users broad access to music that's free from Digital Rights Management controls. SanDisk Corp. is among those that will provide slotMusic entertainment.
