Helping the Handicapped Enjoy Audio
Terry Costlow, Contributing Editor -- Design News, September 22, 2008
The audio processing capabilities that make DSPs popular in stereos and TVs can also help those with hearing loss hear more of those audio signals. America Hears Inc. is locking arms with its Australian supplier, planning to base all its hearing aids on the Voyageur Digital Signal Processing (DSP) platform from Sound Design Technologies Ltd. Focusing its design efforts on a single platform will let America Hears design smaller hearing aids with longer battery life and better sound processing. Sound Design's Adaptive Dynamic Range Optimization amplifier algorithm is a key factor that will enable these advances.
