Golden Mousetrap Finalists

Upek Inc.

TCS5 TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor

Upek Inc.'s TCS5 TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor is designed for integration into 2009 notebook computers. The TCS5 enables PC users to have simple, secure access to local data, corporate networks and online accounts at the touch of a finger. It has a 12 x 4-mm outline and is said to be smaller than competing sensors even though its sensing array is larger. It works with Upek's latest biometric libraries, enabling it to “enroll every finger.”

Pepperl+Fuchs Inc.

WTS10 Weld Tip Sensor

Pepperl+Fuchs Inc.'s WTS10 weld tip sensor is a diffuse mode sensor that checks the quality of welding cap fronts on both housing sides and detects faults, such as inclusions, faulty milling or burrs. The sensor features coaxial optics with parallel beam path, a new display concept, greater switching accuracy, a homogeneous light spot and high positional and tilting angle tolerance.

Decade Engineering

Video Information Overlay Generator

Decade Engineering's BOB-4HGI is a tiny, low-cost video function module that lets microcontrollers display text and graphics on standard TV monitors. The unit generates video onboard or automatically synchronizes to an external video source and superimposes information over the image. BOB-4HGI modules often serve as data overlay generators for CCTV security systems, remote video inspection and remotely piloted vehicles or robots.

Analog Devices Inc.

ADIS16209 Inclinometer

Analog Devices Inc.'s ADIS16209 dual-axis digital inclinometer and accelerometer detects static and dynamic acceleration and converts it to angle of inclination (in degrees) or linear acceleration (g). Its dual-mode inclinometer function responds to either two axes of ±90 degree (mounted horizontally) or single-axis of ±180 degree (mounted vertically) tilt. With factory calibration and embedded dynamic compensation, the ADIS16209 enables accuracy of 0.1 degrees.

APG Sensors

Liquid Level/Pressure Sensor

Automation Products Group's PT-500 submersible liquid level transmitters are engineered for liquid level measurement applications requiring watertight protection. They are available with a removable and reusable cage that keeps the sensing membrane clear of objects and sediments that might cause erroneous readings by blocking the media from reaching the membrane. The transmitters feature a vented, watertight cable.
