Dave Smith Instruments Evolver
For a warmer, more natural sound, this monophonic synthesizer (http://rbi.ims.ca/4928-541) uses two analog, as well as two digital oscillators. To interface the digital part to the analog, designer Dave Smith chose Analog Devices' AD1836A (http://rbi.ims.ca/4928-542), a multichannel 24-bit, 96 kHz codec. The codec has two stereo Analog- to-Digital Converters (ADC) and three stereo Digital-to-Analog converters. The ADCs operate with -92 dB total harmonic distortion (THD) + N and 105 dB signal to noise ratio (SNR) and dynamic range. The DACs have 95 dB THD + N and 108 dB SNR and dynamic range.

Light Matters: The Unsung Heroes of
Modern Health Care
First, let's define "no-compromise." In an ideal configuration, this lamp would use a high-brightness LED (HBLED) that is built into a small, integrated package and is able to produce a large quantity of focused light, operate with a high level of reliability and generate no audible noise. Is this difficult? Yes, but it is possible. Read More
